Professor Maged Nabih Kamel Boulos, MD, PhD, University of Lisbon, Portugal
Maged N. Kamel Boulos is a British scientist and Full Professor (Medical and Public Health Informatics) at the School of Medicine (FMUL), University of Lisbon, Portugal.
He worked before that at Sun Yat-sen University (China), University of the Highlands and Islands (Scotland), University of Plymouth, University of Bath, and City, University of London. He has more than 30 years of combined clinical and informatics experience, spanning the clinical, industry and academic/research worlds (1990-2022).
As well as his medical degree and Master’s in Clinical Dermatology, he holds a Master’s in Medical Informatics from King's College, University of London, and a PhD in Measurement & Information in Medicine (GIS) from City, University London.
Maged teaches and has >180 publications (GS h-index: 49) on a specialist range of medical/public health informatics and geoinformatics topics. He is Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and was co-Chair of WG IV/4 within ISPRS Commission IV, 2008-2012. He is the Founding Editor (2001) and Editor-in-Chief of the MEDLINE-indexed International Journal of Health Geographics. His research has received wide media coverage and is/has been funded by national and international bodies, including World Health Organization EMRO and EURO; European Commission; UK TSB KTP Programme; UK AHRC; and Public Health Agency of Canada (funding one of his former PhD students).
Professor Lan Mu, PhD, University of Georgia, United States
Mu, Lan is Professor of Geography at the University of Georgia (UGA), USA. She leads a research group called GIS.HEAL (GIScience for Health and Environment Analytics Lab), which highlights her role as an ambassador for geography and GIScience in public health research. She builds and maintains interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues across various fields, including public health, medicine, psychology, agricultural economics, and computer science. Trained in Urban and Environmental Sciences, Geography, and Environmental Planning, she has worked with socio-economic, physical and social media data using geospatial analysis, environmental planning, computational geometry, cartography, and geovisualization. She is the director of UGA’s GIScience Certificate Program.
